Usui Reiki
Agentle Practice of Presence, Rest, and Connection

Reiki is a Japanese wellness practice rooted in the traditional understanding of universal life energy. It offers a quiet space to step away from the demands of everyday life, become still, and reconnect with yourself. No previous experience with Reiki is necessary.

Reiki

What is Reiki

The word Reiki is commonly understood to refer to universal life energy.

The practice developed in Japan through Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century and became the foundation for the Usui Reiki tradition practiced around the world today.

During a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed while resting comfortably in a peaceful setting.

The practice is gentle and non-invasive. There is nothing you need to force, achieve, or make happen.

People experience Reiki differently.

Some people report warmth, coolness, tingling, deep relaxation, emotional movement, or a sense of calm and stillness.

Others may notice very little during the session.

There is no right or wrong experience.

Mikao Usui and the Tradition

The Usui Tradition

A Practice Passed From Teacher to Student

Mikao Usui developed the system now known as Usui Reiki Ryoho in Japan in the early twentieth century.

His approach included more than the hands-on practice commonly associated with Reiki today. It also emphasized meditation, self-practice, personal reflection, and the development of greater awareness in everyday life.

After Usui, Reiki continued through teachers and students, eventually developing into different lineages and traditions around the world.

My own practice comes through the Usui Reiki tradition and through a personal teacher-student relationship that unfolded over many years.

For me, that relationship is an important part of what Reiki means.

My Path to Reiki

My journey

Reiki Was Not Something I Rushed into

My relationship with Reiki did not begin with a weekend class or a certificate.

For almost six years, I learned under the guidance of a shaman who had received her own Reiki mastery more than thirty years earlier.

During those years, she watched my development closely.

She allowed me to learn slowly, to experience the practice, and to grow into an understanding of what it meant to work with another person in this way.

There was no rush to give me a title.

There was no expectation that simply completing a course made someone ready to practice.

When she believed I was ready, she attuned me to Reiki.

That experience has stayed with me.

What Reiki Means to Me

My Approach

Reiki is a Responsibility

For me, Reiki is not a title.

It is not something I believe can be measured only by a certificate hanging on a wall.

It is a responsibility to meet another person with care, humility, presence, and respect.

My role is not to diagnose you.

It is not to fix you.

It is not to promise a particular outcome.

My role is to create a peaceful space, offer the practice I was taught, and allow your experience to be your own.

During your session, you remain fully clothed and rest in a comfortable position.

I create a calm environment and begin the Reiki practice.

You may become deeply relaxed.

You may find your thoughts slowing down.

You may feel emotional.

You may simply become very still.
